Concentrate
A potent cannabis extract that strips the plant down to its cannabinoids and terpenes, reaching far higher THC levels than flower. Concentrates include shatter, wax, rosin, live resin, and distillate. They are consumed by dabbing, vaporizing, or adding to flower, and are best approached carefully by newcomers.

Related terms, defined
- Live resin
- A premium concentrate made from cannabis that is flash-frozen at harvest instead of dried, preserving the fresh terpene profile lost in normal curing. Live resin is prized for intense aroma and a more flavorful, full-bodied high. It usually costs more than standard concentrates because of the freezing process and yield loss.
- Rosin
- A solventless concentrate pressed from flower, kief, or hash using only heat and pressure, leaving no chemical residue behind. Rosin appeals to purists who want a clean, full-spectrum extract. Live rosin, pressed from fresh-frozen material, is among the most expensive and flavorful products on a dispensary shelf.
- Distillate
- A highly refined cannabis oil stripped down to nearly pure THC, with terpenes and other compounds removed during processing. Distillate is potent, flavorless, and the workhorse of many vape carts and edibles. Producers often reintroduce terpenes afterward to restore aroma and a more strain-like effect.
- Dab
- A dose of cannabis concentrate vaporized on a heated surface and inhaled, delivering a fast, intense hit. Dabbing requires a rig or electronic device and is the most potent common way to consume cannabis. Because doses are concentrated, even seasoned smokers should take small dabs until they gauge strength.
