Eighth
An eighth of an ounce of cannabis flower, equal to about 3.5 grams — the most popular retail quantity. An eighth yields roughly three to seven joints depending on size. Pricing per eighth is the quickest way to compare value across dispensaries once you account for flower quality.
Related terms, defined
- Gram
- The base unit cannabis is sold by, equal to roughly one to two joints of flower. Concentrates and many vape carts are also sold by the gram. Buying a single gram is the low-risk way to sample a new strain before committing to an eighth or larger quantity.
- Bud
- A single cluster of cannabis flower. The word is used interchangeably with "flower" in casual conversation, though bud usually refers to the individual nug while flower describes the category. Dense, well-trimmed, aromatic buds signal careful growing and curing; airy or leafy buds usually mean a rushed crop.
