Flower
The dried, cured buds of the female cannabis plant — the classic smokable form sold by the gram or eighth. Flower is the least processed product on the menu and the benchmark most enthusiasts judge a dispensary by. Its quality shows in aroma, trichome coverage, and a proper cure.

Related terms, defined
- Bud
- A single cluster of cannabis flower. The word is used interchangeably with "flower" in casual conversation, though bud usually refers to the individual nug while flower describes the category. Dense, well-trimmed, aromatic buds signal careful growing and curing; airy or leafy buds usually mean a rushed crop.
- Pre-roll
- A ready-made cannabis joint sold pre-packed by a dispensary, removing the need to grind and roll your own. Convenience is the draw, but quality varies — some pre-rolls use premium flower while others are filled with trim or shake. Infused pre-rolls add concentrate for a stronger hit.
- Eighth
- An eighth of an ounce of cannabis flower, equal to about 3.5 grams — the most popular retail quantity. An eighth yields roughly three to seven joints depending on size. Pricing per eighth is the quickest way to compare value across dispensaries once you account for flower quality.
- Gram
- The base unit cannabis is sold by, equal to roughly one to two joints of flower. Concentrates and many vape carts are also sold by the gram. Buying a single gram is the low-risk way to sample a new strain before committing to an eighth or larger quantity.
